St. Louis, MO – June, 30 2013. Bick Consulting Services completed an 18-month engagement with Express Scripts addressing their data center strategy. Comprised of 6 “modules”, Bick advised ESI’s IT infrastructure team on issues spanning current state and proposed future state, outsourcing vs. insourcing, colocation, and migration. Service provider identification, recommendation, and contract assistance were key parts of the effort.
The impetus of the engagement was ESI’s merger with Medco Health Solutions, which created the largest pharmacy benefits manager in the U.S., with approximately $93 billion in annual revenue.
“The process was challenging and exhilarating,” stated Tad Davies, SVP, Bick, who led the engagement. “Assessing the various options, technically, financially, and from a business impact was like working a three-dimensional puzzle. One of the key aspects that made this project successful was the level of integration between the Bick and the ESI teams. Collaboration with ESI’s PMO team was particularly successful.”
Kevin Carpenter of Bick managed the six modules of work. “Constant communication was the norm, which included daily touch-base calls. While rarely necessary for most projects, this proved quite effective in ensuring progress on multiple fronts with dozens of team members. It frankly also helped build team consensus and cohesion.”
